The Rockaways is a great place to be, to live, to visit to hang out. Five years ago my wife and I were in a new stage of life after moving from Manhattan and beginning to get comfortable in the Rockaways. We were creating new friendships and were really happy with our new found life and neighborhood.
A good friend suggested us opening a restaurant as he loved my wife's cooking and she seemed to feed the entire block. He was also a new resident to the Rockaways and he flat out said he wanted to see more eateries and variety here. Growing up in the 70's it seemed all the movies and TV shows back then portrayed restaurant/bar ownership as the good life, the life you have just before you retire (for real), does anyone remember those old movies? I suppose it was that, amongst other things along with the encouragement of my neighbor that gave me the bug to start Thai Rock. It's not as glamorous as TV made it out to be, but I really do love this business and love working with my wife and family and our entire staff. We are blessed to be surrounded by such good people. In addition, the support and good spirit from our customers gives me a strong sense of purpose and joy.
Getting back to point, these last 5 years could never have been imagined or fully planned and, for me, this has been the longest consecutive period of work I've ever had. it's time now for a short break, some time alone with my bride and time for simple thoughts. After Saturday, Valentine's Day, we will close Thai Rock for a few weeks, take a little break and do some construction here. We will re-open Friday March 6th. We are going out in style, with the Gray Riders performing classic rock Friday and Aerial Acoustics bring their classical guitar duo for Valentines Day.
Thank you all and Be well,
